Labor & Crew Time

Construction labor & crew time tracking

Labor is the cost line contractors argue about most — and track the worst. JobCostIT puts a clock that's tied to the job, not just the day, in every crew member's pocket.

Why generic time tracking fails on a jobsite

A standard time clock tells you that someone worked eight hours. It doesn't tell you which job those eight hours belonged to. On a contractor's day — three jobs, two trips, lunch in the truck — that distinction is the whole ballgame. If you can't split hours by job, you can't cost labor by job, and labor is where most estimates go wrong.

Shared PIN-pad kiosks make it worse: one pad for the whole crew means a line at the truck in the morning, round-edged hours, and a device that has to be present, charged, and trusted with everyone's time.

How JobCostIT clocks time to the job

Each crew member logs in with their own email on their own phone and clocks onto the job they're working. Hours attach to that job automatically — and to the person, at their pay rate, so labor cost flows to the job's ledger without a second entry:

  • Clock-in per job. Working two jobs today? Clock onto each one; the hours split correctly.
  • Lunch and breaks. Unpaid lunch minutes subtract from gross time so paid minutes are honest.
  • Overtime & double-time. Configure OT and DT thresholds (daily or weekly) and the rates apply automatically to hours past them.
  • Approve and export. Review timesheets and export payroll-ready hours in a click.
  • Backup PIN. A 4-digit PIN is available as a fallback if a phone isn't handy.

From hours to labor cost

Because each crew member has both a cost rate (what you pay them) and an optional bill rate (what you charge for them), hours become both a cost and a billing line on the job. That feeds directly into estimate vs actual and job profitability.
